In Designing with Intelligence with Kris Hammond, we were asked to develop a tool that would address at least one cognitive bias and mitigate or correct these biases' negative repercussions. GradeLevel addresses biases that arise when TAs are grading student projects (such as anchoring, selective perception, and any other biases that may lead to grading criteria variance that's TA-specific). GradeLevel is an all-in-one portal that randomizes, anonymizes, and ultimately corrects final grades to account for any grading areas where a specific TA may be significantly more lenient or stringent. A student can be assured that they are being graded fairly relative to their classmates. The presentation below further details how the system works with accompanying user interface mock-ups:
